Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Booking Beginning June 2026

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an emerging treatment approach that combines carefully administered ketamine with trauma-informed psychotherapy to help individuals process emotional pain, trauma, and entrenched mental health patterns in new ways.

At Trauma Wise Healing, KAP is integrated with the same modalities that guide the rest of our clinical work, including:

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
Somatic Therapy and Nervous System Regulation

This integrative approach helps clients not only access new perspectives during ketamine sessions, but also translate those insights into lasting change through therapy and integration.

KAP services at Trauma Wise Healing will begin accepting clients in June 2026.

What Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Can Help With

KAP may be beneficial for individuals experiencing:

Treatment-resistant depression
PTSD and Complex PTSD (C-PTSD)
• trauma-related emotional patterns
• persistent anxiety
• burnout and emotional exhaustion
• long-standing negative self-beliefs
• difficulty accessing emotions in traditional therapy

Ketamine works differently from traditional antidepressants. Rather than slowly altering neurotransmitters over time, ketamine temporarily increases neuroplasticity, allowing the brain to access new perspectives and patterns.

When combined with psychotherapy, this window of increased neuroplasticity can support deep emotional processing and integration.

Our Trauma-Informed Approach

KAP at Trauma Wise Healing is not a stand-alone medical treatment.

It is a structured therapeutic process that includes preparation, the ketamine experience itself, and integration sessions afterward.

This approach helps ensure that clients are supported before, during, and after the ketamine experience.

The process typically includes:

1. Preparation Sessions

We begin with therapeutic preparation to explore goals, trauma history, nervous system responses, and safety planning.

Preparation sessions help clients:

• understand the ketamine experience
• establish emotional grounding strategies
• identify therapeutic intentions
• build a strong therapeutic container for the work

2. Ketamine Sessions

Ketamine sessions occur in collaboration with a licensed prescriber.

During these sessions, clients may experience:

• shifts in perspective
• emotional insight
• increased openness to processing trauma
• reduced defensive patterns
• greater access to internal emotional experiences

Somatic grounding, bilateral stimulation, and trauma-informed support may be incorporated as appropriate.

3. Integration Sessions

Integration sessions are one of the most important parts of KAP.

These sessions help clients:

• make meaning of their experience
• process emotional material that surfaced
• reinforce insights and new patterns
• integrate changes into daily life

Integration may include somatic therapy, EMDR, or ART when clinically appropriate.

Clients may continue working with their primary therapist while participating in KAP services, and collaboration with ongoing providers is welcomed when appropriate.

Session structure and pricing for KAP services can be found on the Services and Scheduling Page.

Who Is a Good Candidate for KAP

KAP may be appropriate for individuals who:

• have not experienced relief from traditional therapy or medications
• feel emotionally stuck or disconnected
• want to explore trauma processing in a structured therapeutic environment
• are motivated for deeper therapeutic work

All clients undergo clinical screening and assessment before participating in KAP.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy for Trauma and PTSD

Many individuals seeking KAP are struggling with trauma, PTSD, or complex trauma patterns that feel resistant to traditional therapy approaches.

Ketamine may temporarily reduce defensive patterns and increase emotional flexibility, allowing deeper trauma processing when combined with structured psychotherapy.

At Trauma Wise Healing, KAP is integrated with trauma-focused approaches including:

• EMDR
• Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
• Somatic nervous system regulation

This approach helps clients process trauma while maintaining emotional safety and nervous system regulation.

Safety and Screening

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is not appropriate for everyone.

Prior to beginning treatment, clients complete a thorough screening process to assess medical and psychological appropriateness.

Certain conditions may require additional evaluation, including:

• uncontrolled hypertension
• active psychosis
• certain cardiovascular conditions
• specific medication interactions

Medical eligibility for ketamine is determined by a licensed prescriber.

Telehealth Therapy + Medical Collaboration

Psychotherapy and integration sessions are conducted via telehealth through Trauma Wise Healing.

Ketamine medication must be prescribed by a licensed medical provider who determines medical eligibility and oversees the medication component of treatment.

Clients may choose to work with:

a medical provider they already have an established relationship with, or
a collaborating prescriber licensed in their state if they have not yet connected with a medical provider.

If a client does not already have a prescriber, Trauma Wise Healing can help provide recommendations for licensed medical providers who offer ketamine treatment in their area, when available.

This collaborative care model ensures that both medical safety and therapeutic support are appropriately addressed throughout the treatment process.

Trauma Wise Healing provides psychotherapy and integration services only and does not prescribe or administer ketamine. Medical eligibility and prescriptions are determined by a licensed medical provider.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy and Trauma Work

For this reason, KAP services are designed to work alongside:

• trauma therapy
• EMDR
• Accelerated Resolution Therapy
• somatic nervous system regulation
